A. Philip Randolph

A. Philip Randolph was a labor organizer and civil rights strategist who founded the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, helping establish collective bargaining for Black railroad workers. He used the threat of mass marches to pressure the federal government against discrimination in defense industries and the armed forces. Randolph later helped organize the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, linking racial equality with economic justice.
