Akira Yoshino

Akira Yoshino is a Japanese engineer and researcher whose work helped establish the modern lithium-ion battery. In 1985, he developed the first commercially viable lithium-ion battery by combining a carbon anode with a lithium cobalt oxide cathode. He shared the 2019 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for contributions to the development of lithium-ion batteries.
