Alan Emtage

Alan Emtage is a Barbadian-Canadian computer scientist who conceived and implemented Archie at McGill University in 1989, creating what is widely recognized as the first Internet search engine. Archie indexed files on public FTP servers, making software and other online resources easier to locate before the Web became widespread. Emtage later co-founded Bunyip Information Systems and contributed to Internet standards work, including the development of the URL standard.
