Alberto Giacometti

Alberto Giacometti was a Swiss sculptor, painter, and draughtsman whose artistic career shifted from Surrealist experimentation in Paris to an intense postwar study of the human figure. His distinctive tall, slender sculptures and perceptive portraits sought to convey how people appear in space; in 1962, he received the Venice Biennale’s Grand Prize for Sculpture.
