Alexandre de Riquer

Alexandre de Riquer (1856–1920) was a Catalan painter, designer, illustrator, engraver, writer, and poet who became a leading figure in Catalan Modernisme. Influenced by British Pre-Raphaelite art, William Morris’s Arts and Crafts movement, and Japonisme, he helped popularize decorative arts, poster design, book illustration, and artistic bookplates in Catalonia. His richly designed volume *Crisantemes* (1899) exemplifies the close relationship he cultivated between literature and visual art.
