Aloysius Pieris

Aloysius Pieris was a Sri Lankan Jesuit priest, theologian, Indologist, and Buddhist scholar whose work explored the relationship between Christianity, Buddhism, poverty, and social justice in Asia. In 1974, he founded the Tulana Research Centre for Encounter and Dialogue in Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, which became a major setting for interreligious study and exchange. His influential book *An Asian Theology of Liberation* (1988) helped articulate a distinctly Asian approach to liberation theology.
