Amália Rodrigues

Amália Rodrigues was a Portuguese fado singer whose expressive performances helped make the genre internationally recognized. She renewed fado by interpreting works by major Portuguese-language poets, including Luís de Camões, while also recording other popular styles and touring widely abroad. Her career extended into cinema, including an award-winning performance in *Fado, História de uma Cantadeira*.
