About Andrew Carnegie
Andrew Carnegie was a Scottish-born American industrialist who helped build Carnegie Steel into the world’s largest steel manufacturer before selling it to J. P. Morgan in 1901. He later became one of the era’s leading philanthropists, funding more than 2,500 libraries and establishing institutions devoted to education, science, culture, and international peace. In “The Gospel of Wealth,” he argued that the wealthy should treat their fortunes as a public trust and use them for society’s benefit.
