Anita Malfatti

Anita Malfatti was a Brazilian painter, draughtswoman, printmaker, and teacher whose expressionist work helped establish modern art in Brazil. After studying in Germany, New York, and Paris, she held a landmark São Paulo exhibition in 1917 and became a central participant in the 1922 Week of Modern Art. Her career later encompassed teaching, exhibition organization, and shifts toward more naïve and experimental forms of painting.
