Anselm Kiefer

Anselm Kiefer is a German painter and sculptor whose large, materially dense works confront German history, mythology, and the cultural aftermath of World War II. Born in Donaueschingen in 1945, he often extends painting into three dimensions with materials such as lead, ash, straw, and found objects. His practice is represented in major museum collections, including works such as *Angel of History* and *Zim Zum*.
