Barrington Watson

Barrington Watson was a Jamaican painter whose academic-realist practice ranged across history painting, portraiture, landscape, still life, and scenes of everyday life. Trained at London’s Royal College of Art and other European academies, he returned to Jamaica in 1961 and became a major figure in the country’s post-Independence art. He also helped establish the Contemporary Jamaican Artists’ Association and shaped art education as Director of Studies at the Jamaica School of Art.
