Charles Conder

Charles Conder was an English-born Australian painter, lithographer and fan designer, and a key figure in the Heidelberg School of Australian Impressionism. After arriving in Sydney in 1884, he worked with Tom Roberts and Arthur Streeton and helped organize Melbourne’s influential 9 by 5 Impression Exhibition in 1889. His later European work included lithographs, landscapes and highly decorative paintings on silk and fan designs.
