Charles Kelman

Charles Kelman was an American ophthalmologist and innovator who transformed cataract surgery through the development of phacoemulsification, an ultrasonic technique that enabled cataract removal through a smaller incision. He also served as a clinical professor of ophthalmology at New York Medical College and as an attending surgeon at major New York eye hospitals. His work helped establish outpatient cataract surgery as a modern standard of care.
