Colin Murdoch

Colin Murdoch was a New Zealand pharmacist, veterinarian and prolific inventor whose work addressed practical problems in human and animal care. His best-known invention, the disposable plastic syringe, helped reduce infection risks associated with reusing medical equipment; he also developed a tranquilliser-gun system for safely immobilising animals. Murdoch’s inventive career included more than 40 devices, and he was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2000 for services to inventing.
