Cyrus West Field

Cyrus West Field was an American businessman who helped organize the Atlantic Telegraph Company and led the effort to establish telegraphic communication between Europe and North America. Although he had no technical background in telegraphy, Field recognized the cable’s commercial potential and sustained the project through repeated setbacks. The successful transatlantic connection made him a leading figure in nineteenth-century communications history.
