Dai Zhen

Dai Zhen was a Qing-dynasty Chinese scholar whose work ranged across philology, phonology, mathematics, astronomy, geography, and philosophy. A leading figure in evidential scholarship, he challenged orthodox Neo-Confucian interpretations through close study of classical texts and language. He later served as an editor on the Siku Quanshu project and received a Hanlin appointment despite repeatedly failing the metropolitan examination.
