Danie Craven

Danie Craven was a South African rugby union player, Springbok captain and coach whose playing career included 16 international caps, chiefly as a scrum-half. He later became one of the sport’s most influential administrators, serving as president of the South African Rugby Board from 1956 until his death and helping establish the unified South African Rugby Football Union in 1992. Craven also shaped rugby education and development through his academic work at Stellenbosch University and his role in launching Craven Week, a pioneering non-racial schoolboy competition during apartheid.
