Dieter Schwarz

Dieter Schwarz is a German entrepreneur who transformed his family’s Lidl & Schwarz business into the retail group behind Lidl and Kaufland. He opened Lidl’s first discount market in Ludwigshafen in 1973 and assumed leadership of the family company after his father’s death in 1977. Through the Dieter Schwarz Foundation, he has also supported education and research, including projects in Heilbronn.
