About Doria Shafik

Doria Shafik was an Egyptian feminist, poet, publisher, and political activist whose work challenged legal and social barriers to women’s equality. In 1948, she founded the Daughters of the Nile Union, which advocated women’s suffrage, literacy, and economic opportunity. She also founded and edited women’s journals and wrote in both French and Arabic, becoming a prominent figure in Egypt’s mid-20th-century women’s movement.
