Edmund Hillary

Edmund Hillary was a New Zealand mountaineer whose ascent of Mount Everest with Tenzing Norgay on May 29, 1953, made him internationally famous. He later led Antarctic exploration and devoted decades to improving education, health care, and infrastructure for Sherpa communities in the Himalayas. His work as an explorer, diplomat, and philanthropist extended far beyond his landmark climb.
