Eileen Chang

Eileen Chang was a major twentieth-century Chinese-born American writer whose novels, essays, short stories, and screenplays explored intimacy, social convention, and the pressures of modern life. She established her literary reputation in wartime Shanghai with works including *Love in a Fallen City* and *The Golden Cangue*, later continuing her career in Hong Kong and the United States. Her fiction—especially *Lust, Caution*—has remained influential through translation and film adaptation.
