Etel Adnan

Etel Adnan was a Lebanese-American poet, essayist, novelist, and visual artist whose work moved fluently between literature and painting. Her books include *Sitt Marie Rose*, *The Arab Apocalypse*, and *Sea and Fog*, while her visual art was exhibited internationally, including at the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum of Modern Art. Adnan studied philosophy in Paris and the United States and taught aesthetics in California before gaining wider recognition as a painter later in life.
