Faeq Hassan

Faeq Hassan was a pioneering Iraqi painter and educator whose work helped shape modern Iraqi art. After studying in Paris, he returned to Baghdad and established the painting department at the Institute of Fine Arts, where he also taught. His paintings drew on Iraqi daily life, landscapes, working people, and Arab horsemen, while his founding of the Al-Ruwad group encouraged a distinctly local modernist direction.
