Faiz Ahmad Faiz

Faiz Ahmad Faiz (1911–1984) was a Pakistani Urdu poet whose work joined the traditional imagery of the ghazal with concerns about justice, humanism, and political struggle. His major collections include Naqsh-e-Faryadi, Dast-e-Saba, and Zindan Namah, the latter two shaped in part by his imprisonment. He also worked as a journalist and editor, including with Pakistan Times and Imroz, and received the Lenin Peace Prize in 1963.
