Feng Youlan

Feng Youlan was a major twentieth-century Chinese philosopher and historian of philosophy who sought to interpret classical Chinese thought through modern philosophical methods. After earning his doctorate at Columbia University in 1923, he taught at Chinese universities including Tsinghua, where he became a leading academic figure. His influential *History of Chinese Philosophy* and later *A Short History of Chinese Philosophy* helped introduce Chinese philosophical traditions to international readers while developing his own modern Confucian synthesis.
