About Francisco de Vitoria
Francisco de Vitoria was a Spanish Dominican philosopher, theologian, and jurist whose teaching at the University of Salamanca helped establish the School of Salamanca. From his theology chair, held from 1526 until his death, he applied Thomist thought to pressing questions of political authority, relations among peoples, and the treatment of Indigenous Americans. His work is widely regarded as foundational to modern international law and moral philosophy.
