George Santayana

George Santayana was a Spanish-American philosopher, poet, literary critic, and novelist whose naturalist philosophy connected materialism with a sustained interest in spiritual life and culture. After earning his doctorate at Harvard, he taught philosophy there from 1889 to 1912, later devoting himself to writing in Europe. His major works include *The Life of Reason*, *Scepticism and Animal Faith*, *The Realms of Being*, and the novel *The Last Puritan*.
