George Whitefield

George Whitefield was an English Anglican minister whose forceful preaching helped drive the Evangelical Revival in Britain and the Great Awakening in America. Educated at Pembroke College, Oxford, he became associated with John and Charles Wesley and emerged as a leading figure among the Calvinistic Methodists. Because many churches barred his irregular preaching, Whitefield often addressed large outdoor gatherings, making him one of the most visible evangelists of the eighteenth century. He also raised funds for Bethesda Orphan House in Georgia, linking his revivalist ministry with charitable work.
