Germaine de Staël

Germaine de Staël was a Genevan-French author whose novels, essays, and political writings helped connect Enlightenment liberalism with the emerging Romantic movement. Her major works include *Delphine*, *Corinne ou l’Italie*, and *De l’Allemagne*, which introduced French readers to German literature and philosophy while advocating cultural exchange. A prominent opponent of Napoleon, she made her salon at Coppet a center of European intellectual and political discussion.
