Han Yu

Han Yu was a major Tang-dynasty poet and essayist whose writing helped lead the guwen, or “ancient prose,” movement. He promoted clearer classical prose as a vehicle for orthodox Confucian values and later influenced the development of Neo-Confucian thought. Alongside his literary work, he served as a government official and held senior educational and administrative posts.
