About Harry Wright

Harry Wright was an English-born baseball pioneer who helped organize the Cincinnati Red Stockings, widely regarded as the first openly professional baseball team. As manager of the Boston Red Stockings, he led the club to four consecutive National Association pennants from 1872 through 1875 and later won two National League pennants. He continued managing in Boston, Providence, and Philadelphia before his death in 1895, and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1953.
