Hristo Botev

Hristo Botev was a Bulgarian poet, journalist, and revolutionary whose writing became a defining expression of the Bulgarian National Revival. He edited revolutionary newspapers, including Zname, while advocating armed resistance to Ottoman rule. In May 1876, he led a volunteer detachment from the seized steamer Radetski into Bulgaria; he was killed soon afterward in the Vratsa Balkan.
