About Ida Cox

Ida Cox was an African American blues singer and vaudeville performer who began touring with minstrel and theater companies as a teenager. She became a major recording artist during the 1920s, recording extensively for Paramount and earning the nickname “the Uncrowned Queen of the Blues.” Her performances and songs—especially “Wild Women Don’t Have the Blues”—helped define the classic era of women’s blues.
