Isaiah Berlin

Isaiah Berlin was an Oxford philosopher and historian of ideas whose work reshaped modern discussions of political liberty. In “Two Concepts of Liberty,” he distinguished negative freedom from positive freedom, while his theory of value pluralism argued that genuine human values can conflict without being reduced to one supreme principle. His studies of Russian intellectual history, liberalism, and the Enlightenment connected philosophical argument with historical interpretation.
