About James Sully
James Sully was a British psychologist and philosopher whose work helped popularize psychological study in late-Victorian Britain. As Grote Professor of Philosophy of Mind and Logic at University College London from 1892 to 1903, he promoted an increasingly scientific approach to the study of mind and helped establish experimental psychology there. His influential works included *Illusions* (1881), *Outlines of Psychology* (1884), *Studies of Childhood* (1895), and *An Essay on Laughter* (1902).
