Jean Paul Riopelle

Jean Paul Riopelle was a Canadian painter, sculptor, and lithographer whose career helped define twentieth-century Québécois and Canadian modern art. His large, gestural abstractions established an international reputation, while his later work drew increasingly on landscape and northern imagery. Riopelle represented Canada at the Venice Biennale and was named a Companion of the Order of Canada.
