John Mitchel

John Mitchel was an Irish nationalist, journalist, and political writer whose campaigns challenged British rule during the Great Famine. He founded the newspaper United Irishman in 1848 and later published influential works including The Last Conquest of Ireland (Perhaps) and Jail Journal. In 1875, shortly before his death, he was elected to represent County Tipperary in Parliament.
