José Agustín Caballero

José Agustín Caballero was a Cuban Catholic priest, philosopher, and educator who helped reshape philosophical instruction in late-colonial Cuba. As a professor at Havana’s San Carlos Seminary, he promoted wider engagement with modern European thought and influenced a generation of Cuban intellectuals. His Lecciones de filosofía electiva (1796) is regarded as the first philosophy textbook written in Cuba by a Cuban author.
