José Baquíjano y Carrillo, Count of Vistaflorida

José Baquíjano y Carrillo, Count of Vistaflorida, was a Lima-born economist, jurist, writer, and political thinker associated with the intellectual life of late-colonial Peru. His 1781 *Elogio a Jáuregui* combined a ceremonial address with criticism of colonial administration, making him an important reformist voice. He also helped develop the Sociedad de Amantes del País and contributed to *El Mercurio Peruano* before serving as an oidor of the Audiencia of Lima and later as a Spanish state councillor.
