José Watanabe

José Watanabe was a Peruvian poet and screenwriter whose work joined an understated, image-rich style with memories of rural Laredo and his Japanese-Peruvian heritage. His first collection, Álbum de familia, shared the 1970 Premio Poeta Joven del Perú, and later books included El huso de la palabra, Historia natural, and Cosas del cuerpo. He also wrote film scripts, including work associated with La ciudad y los perros and Maruja en el infierno.
