Juan Luna

Juan Luna was a Filipino painter and sculptor whose academic history paintings brought international recognition to Philippine art in the late nineteenth century. His best-known work, *Spoliarium*, won a gold medal at the 1884 Madrid Exposition and is now held by the National Museum of the Philippines. Luna also participated in the Propaganda Movement and later served as a diplomatic agent for Emilio Aguinaldo in Paris, linking his artistic career with Philippine nationalist politics.
