Juan Vucetich

Juan Vucetich was a Croatian-born Argentine police official who developed one of the first practical systems for classifying and identifying people by their fingerprints. Working in La Plata, he established an identification service in 1891 and promoted the use of ten-finger records as a simpler alternative to anthropometric measurements. His system gained international influence through his 1904 work *Dactiloscopía comparada* and his efforts to disseminate fingerprint identification abroad.
