K. G. Subramanyan

K. G. Subramanyan was a major figure in post-independence Indian art, working across painting, mural-making, sculpture, printmaking, set design and toy-making. Trained at Santiniketan under artists including Nandalal Bose, Benode Behari Mukherjee and Ramkinkar Baij, he developed a practice that brought modernist approaches into conversation with Indian folk and craft traditions. He also shaped generations of artists through his long teaching career at Baroda and Santiniketan, while writing extensively on art.
