Kamo no Mabuchi

Kamo no Mabuchi (1697–1769) was a Japanese kokugaku scholar, poet, and philologist whose work centered on ancient Japanese literature, especially the Man’yōshū. A disciple of Kada no Azumamaro, he later taught in Edo and served the Tayasu family as a consultant on Japanese studies. His scholarship helped establish kokugaku as a major intellectual movement, and his students included Motoori Norinaga.
