Kenneth Slessor

Kenneth Slessor was an Australian poet and journalist whose modernist writing helped shape twentieth-century Australian poetry. He began as a newspaper cadet and later edited Smith’s Weekly, producing much of his major poetry during that period. Appointed an official war correspondent in 1940, he reported from several theatres of the Second World War; his poetry remains especially associated with works such as “Five Bells.”
