About Kent Monkman
Kent Monkman is a Canadian interdisciplinary Cree visual artist and a member of Fisher River Cree Nation. Working across painting, film and video, performance, and installation, he reexamines Western art history to address colonization, sexuality, loss, and Indigenous resilience. His gender-fluid alter ego, Miss Chief Eagle Testickle, frequently appears as a way of challenging colonial representations and received ideas about Indigenous peoples. Monkman’s work has been exhibited and collected by major institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Canada, and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
