Lin Fengmian

Lin Fengmian was a pioneering Chinese painter and art educator who helped shape modern Chinese painting by combining Chinese ink traditions with lessons from European modernism. After studying in France, he led major art academies in Beijing and Hangzhou, where he promoted Western art training and influenced later generations of artists. His paintings are recognized for expressive brushwork, strong color, semiabstract forms, and subjects including figures, landscapes, and birds.
