Lincoln Alexander

Lincoln Alexander was a Canadian lawyer and politician who broke major racial barriers in public life. Elected to the House of Commons in 1968, he became Canada’s first Black member of Parliament and federal cabinet minister before serving as Ontario’s 24th lieutenant governor from 1985 to 1991. A Second World War air-force veteran and advocate for equality, education, youth, and race relations, he later served as chancellor of the University of Guelph and helped lead the Canadian Race Relations Foundation.
