Macarius III Ibn al-Za'im

Macarius III Ibn al-Za’im served as Patriarch of Antioch from 1647 to 1672. He traveled through the Romanian principalities, Ukraine, and Russia, journeys recorded by his son Paul of Aleppo and important to the study of Arab Orthodox history. His patriarchate also connected Antioch’s ecclesiastical tradition with wider Orthodox debates in seventeenth-century Eastern Europe.
