Matteo Ricci

Matteo Ricci was an Italian Jesuit missionary whose work helped establish Catholic Christianity in China. After entering China in 1583, he gained influence by mastering Chinese language and culture while sharing Western mathematics, astronomy, cartography, and Christianity. He reached Beijing in 1601, where he served scholars and the imperial court until his death in 1610.
